the pfitzinger/douglas book is quite fascinating. they really dig into the science of running which is very interesting.

very well said. i can't believe how much i blew it last year. i'm really looking forward to running a smart race for once.
i just read the section on improving glycogen storage and fat utilization. chapter 2 seems to be the meat of the book so it'll take me a while to chew through that portion.
earlier tonight i dismantled my computer desk into sections so it'll be easier to move. i also unhooked my computer entirely but after my run tonight i wanted to download the data. i'm not sure how long i could last without a computer. i had to dig through a box to find some cords, then hook it all back up again.
i went out for a run based on HR for something different. i've been typing up summary thoughts on my runs within my log book so if that type of thing interests you, that's where you'll find some of the details.
after i finish more of this book, i anticipate being able to structure much more intelligent workouts than i have in the past. intelligent as it relates to marathon training anyway.
i better get some sleep. early day tomorrow. plus i have my walk-through!!

The concept of the Wall is really a reflection of improper marathon preparation and pacing.

I dunno - the wall seems to be a very, very common concept, even among elite runners. To completely discount it?
There's a reason Phippides dropped dead

good points bill! i think the authors threw in that statement for dramatic effect, to keep me reading through to the end. heh.

oh that whole phidipides thing is a myth! look at mark--he believes in no nutrition at all during a marathon. he has some big fancy theory about it.:)
anywho, i just stopped by to say CONGRATS on your phedippidations mention! WHOO HOOO! I was slogging along and steve mentioned you and i smiled. Just don't forget the little people on your way up.
