the countdown and a prayer

on tap tomorrow: scope out next weekends 10K route. i printed off the info and the driving directions. it would be nice to at least familiarize myself with the area so i can concentrate on running and taking in the moments rather than feeling all lost and confused about whats around the next corner.

when i originally signed up i expected to be in tip-top shape by now! i guess i'll just have to run this one as i am.

Dear Lord, Please Let The Person(s) That Is/Are Supposed To Take Pictures Of The Runners For The Website etc. Be Suddenly Sick Next Saturday. Not Too Violently Sick, But A Very Sudden Sickness That Prevents Any Replacements From Taking Over Those Photography Duties. Amen.

Its supposed to be a pretty good race; i bet it'll be a fun time. meanwhile i am a little jittery already.

i think the last time i ran in a race was maybe in junior high? in gym class? those are not-so-fond memories. i can't remember the last time a crowd cheered me on at anything in my life. because i have never participated in an individual sport where crowds are present (played football as a youth on the offensive line). when it comes to groups, i like to be the #2 man--i run the show behind the scenes but i like to have a mouth-piece to do that PR stuff in front of the crowds for me.

i will be the front man this time! it should be a very interesting experience.

  • from what i read of your running, you're in GREAT shape for the race next weekend! just take some deep breathes and savor the moments...you'll experience some great "highs"!! you can even wear a shirt that says "my name is XXXXX" so the crowds will personally cheer you on!! :)

  • You know, when you get to the actual race start, all those fears will go away. You're there to run, at your own pace and to satisfy your own expectations. The crowd will cheer for you because they will be happy to see athletes out there. It's all good. You'll be fine.

    Go Brent!

  • Wow, I can't believe it's next weekend! It's good to be excited and maybe even nervous about it. But you've definitely trained for it and you'll do just fine. Better than fine.

  • Race day magic will carry you through...it will be such a fun day!! Try to make a race day friend or two! Soak up the atmosphere and smile - you worked hard to get there..so savor every moment! I'll be hootin' and hollerin' from the cyber-sidewalk; just look for the orange hat (or think of me when you see one!).

  • Okay I'm once again behind in reading my friends posts. Sure hope you had a great race. I can bet you did. I would almost wager you are as bad as me and were checking out the ummm "scenery". :-)

  • you're going to love it! racing as an adult is so much more fun than competitive sports were back in high school... now we're much more in control, and it's like you're racing yourself and not anyone else...
