easing back

i moseyed on over to the 'mill at about 10:30pm for a nice and easy run...

1: 5.5mph (10:40 pace? can't remember what that equates to)
2: 6mph (10:00)
3: 6mph (10:00)

my shins seemed a little better. not 100%. lets see what happens this week while i take it easy. i'm most worried about going back out onto the streets, particularly for those long runs. i believe i have narrowed the problem down to transitioning too quickly from treadmill runs to long street runs w/hills. i don't know any way around this though, i can't run on the treadmill forever. lets see how i feel next week.

then i proceeded to do 30 minutes on the elliptical, aka the Sweat Machine Where Time Stands Still. my legs really get a workout on that thing. i hobbled over to get the wet wipe when i was done.

overall i felt like it was a good solid workout. the gym was not crowded tonight which is odd because mondays are usually crazy. not a lot of chicks! i had to watch tv instead. ha ha.

i found a way to stretch my calves while sitting at my desk (sweet). did this quite a few times today. i figure my cubemate must already think i'm crazy so whats a little stretching underneath my desk going to hurt. also tried a few shin exercises.
------
i feel like i'm getting closer to a clean diet, regardless of the fitday stats. a candy bar or two a day is an improvement from a box of cookies or a giant bag of candy per day. i'm trying to be positive here.
------
we got onto the subject of running at the office. one guy totally ripped into his neighbor for wanting to train for a marathon this year. apparently his neighbor has been training on a treadmill all winter to try to get into shape. i don't get it. why rip into someone for wanting to train for a marathon? bastard! he doesn't know i'm doing a little training myself (and i didn't bring it up). people like that piss me off and make me want to push myself even more. one of the people in on this conversation knows i'm training; she has run two marathons herself. she gave me a little wink and said to the bastard, "you'd be surprised at what the human body can do".

cool. i would have asked her to marry me right there but she's already married. hehe!!

  • That's the perfect name for the elliptical machine!

I think there are a lot of people like the naysayer at your office. We all know somebody just like that. And yes, it can be good fuel for the fire.

  • Trust me, I can relate. I get the same weird looks from naysayers but I get a lot more "wow, I can't even imagine running a couple of blocks. How do you do it?"

I am like you the naysayers just make me want to do more and prove em all wrong.

  • wow-you run when i'm already snoozin'...don't know how you do it and still get up early.

great job on the cleaner diet...we HAVE to focus on the positives (no matter how small)...that's what gets us where we want to be!

oh, and people like that are just jealous because they don't have the determination to train...deep down inside he WISHES he could have the same motivation...unfortunately, he feels he has to be rude about it instead.

  • I don't know why some people are so critical or even just surprised. I'm training for a triathlon and it's the comments like, "Do you really think you can do it?" that make want to work harder to prove that I can!
