attack of the trail mix
bought a package of trail mix that contained 6, 180 calorie individual pouches. reasonable, 180 calories for a snack with some nuts. but not when you go nuts! ha get it? nuts? bummer. now here we are at 6pm; gotta get through 5 more hours with eating very little. i'm heading out to restock the carbonated water supply. drink like a fish tonight, that is my only solution as i see it.
run details later. oh yeah, maybe taxes.

5 miles. my shins and calves hurt and not in a good way. they hurt right from the first step. my pace slowed from 10 minute miles to 11+. ave pace ended up being 10:50. yuck. my HR was lower so i know its my legs. they hurt. i want to take time off but at the same time i don't what to get off track with my training program. i think my legs need rest.

OK, seriously, just sit down and do the taxes thing. You'll feel so much better when you're done and it's so totally easy peasy. Don't mack on the trail mix while taxing, however. Bad juju to mix the two! (LOL)

maybe you need new shoes-- shin splints are definitely an "overuse" injury and the only thing you can do is rest and get new shoes, or else they might get worse... also check out this website; it had some exercises that helped me:

i'd suggest new shoes too...if you have a specialty running shoe store near by, you can ask their opinion (they may even have the spify computerized analysis thing)...good shoes make all the difference. I've had killer shins before too (actually my shins are extrememly sensitive in general...even if my cat walks on them I yell ouch!).
