Feed The Goal
feed the goal!
i just got back from my travels, i'm beat. i went to ft. wayn7, IN. the people i met with were great but this is not a place i would select for a vacation. no offense to anyone hopefully. i ran on friday morning but only for 20 minutes, thats all i could do because of time constraints.
anyway, with no direct flights from mpls, this meant i had a lot of down time. i read a lot of magazines, which included some biking magazines (both road and mountain).
--------------
did you know you can buy JUST THE FRAME of a mountain bike for $2,000?
what in the heck? it does look super cool though, no?
--------------
the biking magazines were a lot of fun to read. the money you can spend on biking absolutely blows running out of the water. not even close. it would appear that a person can make biking into a very expensive hobby if they so choose. cool.
Landis and Le Tour
there were a lot of write-ups on the upcoming le tour! it starts on july 1, and i can't wait.
there was a very interesting article/interview with floyd landis in 0utside. go buy the mag and read the article, its entertaining. he is a pretty interesting dude. hardcore (obvious understatement for anyone with a chance to win le tour).
Average daily traning between May 15 and June 12, 2005:
-3.5 hours / day
Energy intake over that same time period:
-174,000 calories or the equivalent of 11 big macs / day
-------------------
"There's only one rule: The guy who trains the hardest, the most, wins. Period. Because you won't die. Even though you feel like you'll die, you don't actually die. Like when you're training, you can always do one more. Always. As tired as you might think you are, you can always, always do more". --Landis.
--------------
As i walked by countless airport shops with junk food oozing from the counters, i just thought to myself, you know what? feed the goal. don't complicate this. if you want to run another marathon, if you want to train pain-free with two good knees for the rest of your life, feed the goal.
keep walking past that crap and chew some gum. feed the goal. that is my new mantra for the summer. very simple. focus on the goal, and feed it appropriately. both must be in sync.

That is smart and inspiring. A good mantra.
(sorry to see you're back on the gum, though ;-)

I really need to think more about acting on that last paragraph. Great post!

OOhhh. We read the same magazines! I have a lot of the same ones b/c I have a place trip coming up too. The biking thing is crazy!!!
I am trying to feed the goal too! I'm off on vacation with my family who think I am crazy. I consume way less wine and junk food than all the rest of them. They think I am a total public health nerd and they totally tease me about it. I wish someone else was there who ate the same way!! It would be so much easier.
