a preview?

the anniversary of my first ever race is this upcoming weekend! thats right, one year ago i pinned a racing bib onto one of my own shirts for the first time. it sure was something special i tell you.

there is only one race in all your life where you have no expectations to live up to, no way to compare the official timed race with any of your other timed races. that, is your first race! its a beautiful thing.

each stride brings you closer to finishing one thing you have never completed before in your life. each race means something different for each racer and yet, everybody unites on race day with at least one common goal in mind: to cross that finish line.

i was able to convince a buddy of mine some time ago, to also run this 10k next weekend. his own fitness journey started before i inquired about his willingness to race. he has since lost a total of 90 lbs! that is sweet, nice job shawn. that takes awesome dedication to say the least.

on saturday we ventured over to the 10k course and ran it for practice. last year i finished in 1 hour 4 seconds. on our saturday training run we finished in about 58 minutes. cool! my polar says we ran 6.5 miles but its probably off a little. maybe we ran 6.3 or 6.4? who knows.

this upcoming week is one of the four busiest times of the year at the office, which will have me laboring for 15-16 hours a day (excl. monday). but you can bet i will still be thinking about this anniversary race all week.

i can't wait....what a fun time it will be!
