drum beat
sign-up for the twin cities marathon opens next week! i hear the drum beat. do you hear it?
after work i took a 1 hour nap. then i made some calls and finally at around 9pm i took my sleepy self to the gym. i stepped on the stair stepper for 20 minutes (the one with actual stairs that move). that is a great work out.
then i moved to the treadmill with no real plan in mind. i ended up doing 1 mile--i started at 10:00 pace and finished the mile in 9 minutes so i kept bumping up the speed; i just felt like running progressively faster. i felt good.
i like the stair stepper, it keeps my heart rate in the aerobic/fat burning zone pretty easily. when i joined a gym for the first time in 1992 or 93? (i was a sophomore or junior in hs), i was too intimidated to run on the treadmill so i used the stair stepper for at least 6 straight months. back then it was the old school kind though, not the one with the moving stairs. anyway, then after 6 months i finally got the guts to use the treadmill.
long (boring) story short, i want to start incorporating some more stair stepper as my cross-training exercise.
finally, the amount of caffeine in diet coke is more like 45 mg, not 70. my bad!
