Poignant Irrelevance

it was pretty exciting to follow jeff's race online today! i got a few shivers as the times updated throughout the race. i wish i could have been there. great stuff jeff, i can't wait to read the full account. jeff has meant so much to my growth has a runner, and i can't even explain the impact he's had on my ability to believe that i can do IT ('it' meaning run). that is half the battle you know, truly believing you can do it.

due to the fact that i only managed to log a mighty 3 miles this weekend, i wanted to put in a decent run tonight. i ended up with 6.6 miles which took about an hour and 4 minutes (a couple laps around nok0mis with some overlap). i felt ok through the first half but then through the last half i was so hungry. i don't think i ate enough to get through the run with that energized feeling. i started to dream about what i would eat after the run. i struggled.

mile 1. 9:22 (149 ave HR)
2. 9:27 (153 ave HR)
3. 9:27 (154 ave HR)
4. 9:46 (158 ave HR) waiting to cross street added 15 seconds to this split.
5. 9:25 (168 ave HR) what the HR???
6. 10:17 (163 ave HR) 45 second stoplight delay
0.6 10:05 (162 ave HR) 38 second stoplight and a 36 second finishing sprint, times totally coincidental.

-----------------------
i find the heart rate readings to be pretty discouraging. i should be in better shape than this! we'll see how the next run goes.

on the diet front, i have been doing fine except i had several hundred calories worth of some dark chocolate today (thinking hey, this is better than milk chocolate right?). i feel very weak for screwing up like that so early on, but i'm trying to move on. i'm focused on the long term. i'm focused on what i can be this summer after all of my hard work with the dieting. trust me, it'll pay off in the end. this dark chocolate will not impact the goals i have for myself.

tonight i went to specialty meat shop for something different. they have awesome lemon peppered chicken breast. the sign said $4.44 per pound (i think?).

i said, "two lemon peppered chicken breast please".
he packed it up and replied, "$13.92...would you like a bag?"

holy smokes, $14 for chicken b? i don't know what happened. i'm guessing he thought i meant 2 lbs and it was actually $4.44 per 1/2 lb?

yikes. needless to say i'll be having lemon peppered chicken all week long and possibly with every meal.

  • Oh, man. I'm LOL at the though of peppered chicken with V8 for breakfast.

Stick with it. Pretty soon, it'll just be the way you eat.

If it makes you feel better, I had pizza for lunch today. And a cookie. Damn corporate lunch meetings...
