Poignant Irrelevance

trip #3, the final trip of this leg, looms. i'm still packing, and last minute laundry. i hope i can still manage some rest over the next couple of days. last night i couldn't sleep worth jack. however, the plan is coming together. not that i'll be able to follow it per se but, its coming together on paper anyway.

part of the "plan" is an excel spreadsheet...it has all 26+ miles marked off in one column and then pretend splits next to each mile. i've used the online calculators too but they aren't flexible. see, this way i can say what if i ran miles 1-5 in xx:xx? and then miles 6-10 at xx:xx? and then at the end i will crash and run xx:xx, so my time might be around xx:xx:xx, ya know? or what if i... hehe. i won't obssess like that on the course though....i won't have to because i'll do a little of that beforehand. whatever my pace is on the Day, i'll easily know which scenario i might be settling in to, or what i might have to do to get myself into the next scenario.

i've been looking back at my 20-miler. its not really helping; that run was kind of a blur. very difficult to analyze. difficult to remember what that pacing felt like. plus at the end i was pretty spent.

today i drank about 2 liters of water and 2 bottles of gatorade. that seems about right for me. i've been in the bathroom all day. it'll be tough to drink water while on the road. i'll do what i can.

ps i didn't drink any water on my 9 mile run this past saturday. i only bring this up because i guess i'm a camel? heh. i promise i won't do that on marathon day though, i know its not good.

i can't help the analyzing. heh. who am i really kidding though, i won't be thinking about scenarios at all during the event. well, i might be just a little. ok, gotta pack.

  • hey, dianna has a friend that made up a pace band calculator that lets you put in your own pace numbers and will calculate the splits and final time for you. so, you can take the pace chart from, say a 5 hour marathon and modify the values to match any hills or pace changes you want to do.

shoot her an email and ask her for the link. the pace band that it spits out is customized with her logo, but hey, that might be a great reminder of the support the rbf has been!

i'm with you, too. i don't like the calculators that give you an even pace through the whole race. i like to pad the first 10k with an extra minute or two, and her calculator is perfect for that.

  • I need my excel almost as much as I need my running shoes! I'd be lost without it.

I also need better eyesite for those dang words at the bottom.

    Have a most awesome race!
