Poignant Irrelevance

well thats one travel day down, 5 or 6 more to go before race day. cripes.

i read the new runners world on the plane. "When (the pain) occurs, back off a little on your training, and ice the afflicted area several times a day for at least 48 hours to increase blood flow". thats on page 96. ice the area couple times a day for at least 48 hours? what? i hope nobody reads that and tries to ice a body part for 48 whole hours. heh. i think thats a (pretty funny) typo. i laughed out loud on the plane. why do i think things like this are funny?

it was a really good issue though. i knew very little about deena kastor prior to reading the issue--i thought that article about her was one of the most well written articles i've read in the magazine over the past year. plus alison is in this issue! so that was cool too.

well i better get some rest. more later. i'll get back to y'all later (thats how they talk in the state i visited, heh. it was cool. "what did y'all do today? how y'all doing?", said the cute girls).

oh, i used the nano on the flights, it rules. except it looks the battery will last for a little over 6 hours. i kind of thought it was supposed to go longer. that sucked. but otherwise its so sweet.

  • didja have the backlight on? That really kills the batteries. I think that you need a couple of cycles on the battery before it comes up to full capacity, too.

And this month's runner's world was one of the better issues I've read in a while. Practical, inspirational, and well timed for anyone with a long fall race...

  • you came to Tejas!! If you were in Houston and didn't try to say Hi I'm gonna beat you up! Yeh, it is HOT and HUMID every single day from basically March 1-Dec. 1. Running in the heat is good conditioning. That is the advantage, but it is pancake flat so that is a huge disadvantage!!

  • Deena Kastor rocks! She won the women's race at the Philadelphia Distance Run (1/2 marathon) on Sunday and smashed the American record while doing it. Then she was cool enough to hang out and sign autographs for all the slow people like me.

She she now owns American road records in the 5K, 8K, 15K, half and full marathon distances.

  • I just read that issue last week. It was good and as I haven't run in over a week, inspiration to get my butt in gear. I also finally replace my polar, so I'm excited to get out again. Kicking myself for slacking off for so long. Maybe I need a race to work towards.

  • I was close to being offended by the 'hey yall' comment until you mentioned the cute girls part. Southern girls ARE cute (and often in-bred) =) !

  • i think all the ipod batteries suck like that. i read somewhere (boston phoenix?) that it lasts longer if the volume is lower, or you get rid of their crappy white headphones.

i loved this issue! and I got another one yesterday!

  • The battery is another issue I have with ipods. I read where they no longer include a charger (you have to buy it separate). Instead, you charge it through a USB...? But that sucks if you're not near a computer to charge it.
