purple toenail, the first clif shot, and Zapped!

let me show you something. one of my toenails. that ain't nail polish either. i switched to the springy shoes today. more on the run later...i'm off to participate in some fun 4th festivities. later dudes.
------------------------
i'm back from the festivities. check out this traffic. gridlock for miles and miles. and miles. whew, that commute wore me out a bit.

---
i just realized that some of my bloglines feeds haven't been working which sucks. that service seems spotty at times. some feeds were 3 days behind.
---
on saturday morning i drove to a new path that goes around a lake, located about 15 minutes from my apartment. it was awesome! it is my new favorite spot to run. there is plenty of variety in the route and the miles seemed to go by quickly. some chicks run here too.

today i ran 10 miles. i know what you are going to say. i know i know i know, but man it was so beautiful outside and i was feeling like a million bucks! wow was i ever feeling good. i was floating baby, floating!

the first 5 miles were absolutely great, as a matter of fact i haven't felt that great on a run in quite a while. the next 4 took a little more effort. if i had remembered to empty the memory on my polar, i could show you some neat statistics (memory filled up after 5 miles).

this path is a ~2 mile loop which is a perfect distance for making a pit stop at my car for a swig of water and/or gatorade. i took the raspberry clif shot around mile 5 or 6. it tasted a little like raspberry jam!

mmmm, jam. it wasn't as bad as i had feared. i sucked it down and then drank some water. in a surprise move, i felt full after that. i'm pretty happy the clif shot didn't cause me to puke or anything like that. woohoo!

i would say i averaged a 10:30 pace for the first 5 miles, then more like 11:00. my total time was 1 hour 58 minutes. i walked once for about 1/3 of a mile, at the 9 mile mark.

the somewhat purple toenail sucks. i will have to investigate this occurrence on the running forums etc. to see what it is all about.

AB Zapped me! i got tagged for 6 songs, so let the fun begin. it should be noted that Dawn tagged me a few days ago but her survey is really tough! i mean, do you guys really want to know what my favorite body parts are? geez. :) so while i toil away on that one, lets do the songs one first.

1. sports talk radio. sports, sports, sports! particularly when the NFL is in season, i can listen to 8 different people breakdown the X's and O's of the same game and still be enthralled. the only sport i find boring is baseball, so this time of year is a little rough. football analysis begins in august, yeah!!!!!

2. national public radio. i'm a nerd. i have a thirst for knowledge. and since september '01, i have become more interested in world politics.

--i realize these aren't songs but when i'm in the car, i spend 90-95% of the time listening to talk radio. it makes people crazy so when i'm driving other folks, i'll flip to some tunes to spare the misery. it should also be noted that i typically start out my runs by listening to talk radio...usually (but not always) 3-5 miles before i crank up some tunes. it depends on whether or not the programs on the radio at the time are holding my attention (i hate the click and clack car talk show, its so fricken boring).

3. favorite depressing songs: Burn, by Usher; Boulevard of Broken Dreams, by Green Day; Over and Over, by Nelly.

4. favorite aggressive running songs: Fuel, by Metallica; Memory Remains, by Metallica; Till I Collapse, by Eminem--this one usually comes on during the middle or the end of my runs and it literally sends waves of adrenaline through me.

5. favorite dance-type tunes: Deep Vibrations, by Trance[]Control; Days Go By, by Dirty Vegas (loved this video too).

6. favorite non-running old school songs: At Last, by Etta James; These Foolish Things, by Etta James (if you break out like this chick can in these songs, lets get married); Come Fly With Me and New York New York, by Sinatra.

  • Heh, you added to this post after I read it...lol.

Nice job on the songs, now I'm waiting for your other answers. They should be interesting.

  • As one of the frequent visitors in your car, I have to say the tunes aren't brought out very often for me! :-) As a result, I find myself listening to talk radio on my own more often. And I also admit that I do the same thing when running -- I listen to sports radio or tune into the news programs on TV at the club for the majority of the run, then turn on the tunes for the last leg.....Now I know where I get that from! :-)

How are you feeling the day after your long run? Hopefully the shins aren't too bad.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!

  • 1. That is SO nail polish - you can't fool us.

    2. At Last is one of my favorite songs! Not many people can bust out like Etta, though, so don't hold out on that one or you'll be an old maid.
