sleepless
some day i will tell you why i am sleepless. but right now i can't. which kinda stinks because i just assume write it.
so anyway. heh.
oh hey i know, i can blabber on about my car situation. you don't even need to read it cuz its boring i'm sure. but i'm bored so i'm gonna type something and hope it makes me sleepy.
-after several test drives of different brands, i picked out a new car. after 4 days and two different versions of the same car, this dealer still could not deliver a car to me that looked new and had no swirl marks in the paint
-if i'm going to pay $$ for a new car, it must be perfect or very close. swirl marks are not acceptable.
-eventually the detail guy at the dealership told me, "oh--yeah the car was dusty and i should not have wiped it off like that". dude thats not cool, you are the detail guy, you are supposed to know things like this. this conversation seals the deal for me.
-i already had the contract signed but i told them forget it! this deal is off, you guys stink (well i didn't tell them they stink but i told them i'm never coming back here because you guys had 4 days to deliver me a car and you still couldn't do it)
-they sort of freaked out. who cares, they suck. no way, i'm not accepting your crappy cars.
-and i hate your cheap car salesman talk. speak english, i don't want to listen to all of your stupid cliches and your cheesy lines. we are all intelligent here, talk to me about the car. don't say crap like "we under-promise and over-deliver!" thats just lame dude.
---normally if a sales dude starts in with this garbage i find a way to talk to a different sales dude. this a bad, bad sign in my experience. when a guy doesn't know what he is talking about, he typically turns to analogies and cheesy lines and stuff like that. i can't stand fluff. if you don't know just tell me you don't know and check on it. don't make it up. when you talk to people in the business world you find out very very quickly whether or not they know what they are talking about, and if they are honest, credible, etc. these traits are very important to me.
---a side note to this is that i do extensive research on the cars before i go to the dealership so i know when a guy is making stuff up. you'd be surprised at how many car sales dudes just completely make up facts out of thin air.
-the financing subject is a whole separate post. lets just say they will lie straight to your face! you can find the lease terms on the internet beforehand and walk in to the dealership already knowing this.
-my refund of about $1,000 better be in my account by tomorrow.
-on to car brand #2. different car, different dealership. i love this car. i currently drive a 2002 version and the 2006 model is a new design. i should have never strayed.
-i talk to my sales dude and finally pick out a car with my preferred options. this takes days of back and forth communication.
-due to the timing of my lease expiration and the roll-out of this new updated 2006 version, i couldn't order my EXACT preferred car from the factory.
-my sales dude has to search the country for a car similar to the one i want, and then trade with that dealer. then my car is shipped to my dealership (hopefully).
-this is a brutal process for two reasons 1) its hard to find one with my specs (i'm picky i guess. my base requirements are black exterior, black interior, aluminum trim, and sport package--18" rims and sport seats! its not bling-bling though, its sporty in a classy way hehehe), and 2) the whole timing thing with cars coming off the ocean with my specs that will be here in time.
-last saturday we finally find a car i like. he says everything is cool.
-today he called me up and said that somebody in michigan purchased my car before he could secure it. basically, this car sold in 1 or 2 days after being on the lot.
-now on wednesday i have to talk to him all over again to find a car that he can trade for and get here within the next week and a half before my lease expires.
-what if i can't get the car i want? dang i wanted that car that some other lucky bastard is driving right now in michigan.
-the current car that i'm driving has some damage that i must fix.
-i scraped the cement post that i park next to downstairs... one morning when i was really really stressed out about work stuff. my fault.
-it will cost about $850.
-i do not have a second car and i do not want to rent a car while it is being fixed so i might be carless for a while. 3 days maybe?
-how is that going to work? beats me.
-i might have to get the whole windshield replaced too, because there is a crack from a rock that hit the windshield a long time ago. thats totally not my fault man! stupid semi-trucks. (the lease agreement says i gotta fix crap like this)
-i have already replaced this windshield once before from a rock that hit it.
-this windshield fix has to be done at a different car repair place than the $850 damage one.
-this all as to be figured out in about a week or i'm screwed.
sweet dreams!
so anyway. heh.

Dude: rent a car while yours is being worked on. It will just make your life more complicated than truly necessary if you don't. Besides, you can rent something funny, enjoy it for a few days.

Ooh! Ooh! Rent a mini! I got to ride in a Mini Cooper last week that had just come off the race tracks and it was awesome!
Sorry about the car troubles. Getting a car fixed/buying a new one can be a real pain!

Does your insurance cover windshield replacement? My insurance (very common compnay) will replace it for a deductible (of something like $100) which was a huge help. Check it out before spending all that money!

OK, I'm totally imagining how cool you look cruising in your very classy, very sports car with your precise specifications. Gotta have some luxuries in life, right?
I hear you on the double-speak of salespersons. Just answer my questions, and if you don't know the answer, find someone who does, give me a low-key sales pitch -- I understand you've got to do that-- and then leave me alone to make my own decision!
Hope you get some sleep soon :)

I have an ex that was a Car Salesman. I completely understand and sympathize.
As for being "car less" ummmm hubby uses the truck 90% of the time and I didn't learn to drive until I was 27. One can survive without a vehicle...lol.

Brent, what if it was Jon who ended up with your car?!?!?! Oh my gosh, or Lynne?
Car hassles are the worst. Or close to the worst as they can impact just about everything else in our lives. I hate car shopping, and my memory of it still haunts me from 14 years ago. Car salesmen -- there oughta be a law. Sheesh. At least you're not female, you'd get to hear about how automatic transmissions will keep you from breaking a nail. (and on and on and on).
Some repair places out here will give loaner cars, you might wanna look into if anyone near you does. That might make this less of a hassle.
Get some sleep, eh? And I love the idea of renting a mini.

I wish I'd had you here when I was buying my new car, I'll bet I'd have paid less. Being picky for such an expensive purchase isn't really pickiness, it's just good sense.

Shouldn’t your insurance cover the windshield? (maybe?) I really don’t anything about insurance or cars, but last winter a stone from a snowplow hit my windshield and cracked it. Thankfully, my insurance paid for it. They even had a guy drive to my house to get it fixed. Good luck finding a new car and don’t forget to post a pic. after you buy it.

um, yeah. 1 word: buy.
