long and hot

this afternoon i ran 18 miles in about 2:49. this was easily my most difficult training run of summer up to this point. i could not run in the morning because i had to get my tv calibrated by the geeek squad. long story short, i was not able to head out the door until 1pm.

by that time it was in the low 80' s and a kind of humid. it reminded me a little of chicago last year.

i figured it was going to be challenging, but whew! as a part of the pfitz marathon training program you are supposed to run a 6-7 miler on each day prior to your long run, to get your legs a bit more worn down and thus better simulate marathon conditions during the long run on the next day.

so on friday night at around 9pm, i ran for an hour (just under 7 miles), with 7x100m strides beginning around the 4th mile.

that was the most effort i have put into a friday night run and i was really feeling it today.

i had a recovery shake, some water, some gatorade, took a shower, and planted myself on the couch for a little while. i could not move. i think my phone rang a few times, i dunno. i could not get up. hehe. i lost almost 4 pounds on the run, and i drank as much as i could at all the water pumps along the way.

eventually i dragged myself to the grocery store to pick up some food, but i was walking quite slowly through the isles.

ouch. am interested to see how i recover / how i feel tomorrow. i'll be sleeping good tonight!

i ran 48 miles this week. i was supposed to run 50. however prior to this week, my high this summer was 37 so i guess i'm ok w/it. next week i think i'm scheduled for 52 or so, but i have a busy week at work scheduled as well. i'm supposed to run 20 next weekend! doh.
