temperature at start of tonights run:
-22 F
-25 mph wind
-'feels like' temp: 4 degrees F
brrrr. i wore long underwear type pants, with running pants over them. i wore a long sleeved thermal running shirt, and a shirt sleeved running shirt over that. then a warm wicking hoodie over that. plus: gloves, hat, mask.
Distance: 5.69 miles, 48:54
before run
this might be my coldest run ever! sweet. the big toe on my right foot was numb for the first 1/2 mile. everything eventually warmed up except one certain area. uh umm. there must be a solution to that; it was the sole reason i would define the run as somewhat uncomfortable despite feeling warm in most areas.
i have had a craving for soup and rice lately (not necessarily together). this is somewhat odd because i'm not a soup guy (rarely have it), and i rarely have rice! i had soup for lunch and i just made some brown minute rice with grilled chicken breast--southwestern flavor. i don't think the rice was fluffy enough; no i do not know how to make good minute rice. ha.
i'm up about 3 or 4 solid pounds from my average marathon-training weight. i find that i'm eating about the same as i was during training, but running 25-30 miles/week instead of 45. i've been tracking my food for the past few days to see where i stand. i've been eating about 2,000 to 2,200 calories; 15% / 70% / 15%, fat / carbs / protein.
not enough protein by a long-shot (around 85-90 grams). i bought some protein shakes at work but still having trouble making myself have 1 or 2 during the day.
it should come as no surprise that i've been having trouble lifting consistently. i lifted twice last week and have not lifted so far this week. bah! must, keep, up, the fight.
i need to write out my goals again. winter goals, and some long-term goals. i find it really helps when i complete the physical act of writing goals down on paper, even if i contemplate them in my mind frequently. do it, write a couple out eh?
chad recently posted some running book suggestions. go check 'em out some time. i'm currently reading Running with the Buffaloes. i had never heard of it before; its very good so far! it motivated me run on monday night, but on tuesday i was too tired from reading motivational anecdotes and had to go to bed early. heh.

I can't believe you've already had such cold temps already! It's only been below freezing by a degree or two a couple of times so far this season.
Try subbing chicken broth for water sometimes when you make rice, it make it just a bit more flavorful. Also, don't stir it while the water is cooking off and just fluff at the end!

wait, you typed "-22"...does that mean it was negative 22 degrees? or was the hyphen merely for bullet purposes?
either way, that's way too nippy for these bones of mine.
