the great gatsby

i ran tonight after work. i think it was in the high 30's or low 40's with a stiff wind. immediately after getting home from work, i forced myself to find running clothes and scoot out the door before i had time to manufacture an excuse (it's too cold, it's too dark, halloween candy tastes good, etc). it went ok. i warmed up after about 11 minutes. i put in about 5.7 miles.

i'm really loving my new 305, its awesome. i wore the heart rate monitor tonight. it worked really well, but did give some false readings in the first couple of minutes. this thing even knows when i run on the other side of the street on an out and back route; its crazy. i'm just this little dot on the earth but the satellites know when i'm on the right or left side of a neighborhood road? that is insane.

in other news, i went to a party this weekend thrown by an old co-worker. it felt like a scene out of the great gatsby. the house it was being held at was ridiculous (it felt like a westin hotel or something), and everyone was wearing their trendy prada, talking about how much money they make, and stuff like that. it was weird. i only new about 6 people, and just about all of them are nice and down to earth. i can't speak for the rest of the people; i can only go by what i experienced that night. i hope i'm not like that. i don't think that i am. please tell me i am not like that. it was great to see some old faces and re-connect, but on some level it felt like a society in which i hope to never enter.

  • I would tell you you're not like that....but then again I don't know you. Just kidding! =) From what I know I don't think you're like that. It's funny, I just read that book earlier this year and really enjoyed it.

  • I'm a bad blog reader, just catching up. Sorry that Chicago didn't go as planned (I still can't believe the weather) but congratulations on toughing it out.

Have you seen sport tracks (http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/)? It's free software that works with the Garmin. I love it because you can actually edit the trackpoints, which is useful for runs where the GPS goes crazy and picks up a point a 1/2 mile away from where you are.

Hope you got some of the great weather we had today and were able to get out and enjoy it!
