rockhopper revisited

for the last several years i've never really had a cross training activity that i ENJOYED, excluding weight training which isn't typically aerobic.

i went mountain biking again tonight, back to the same trails where i got lost. i went about an hour earlier this time though. my gf told me i had to call her or send a text message before i went back there again. hehe.

riding is so fun. i get so out of breath, peddling and peddling and peddling. its kind of like sprinting except you can't stop. this is all single track plus with the way the trails are designed, you just have to keep going and going until you get spit out at the end. right when you think you can't breath anymore, a hill emerges. get ready to climb!

its awesome. this time it took me 36 minutes to go ounce around the outside. i even went over 2 little jumps, mostly because if i didn't go over them i would have killed myself because i was going too fast to do anything but launch.

one time i did actually land on my frame (think: speaking in a high voice type of a landing). youch. but you just zip back on the peddles and go and go and go. woohoo!

so lets talk running now. so far this week i'm up to 11.1 miles, yeah!! before i went mountain biking tonight, i went for a 3 mile run around n0komis after work (i brought my clothes and changed at work)-- about a 10 minute pace. then i came home, put a lean cuis7ne panini in the microwave for dinner and then proceeded to drop it on the floor after waiting patiently for it to finish. crap! i made another one, ate it, checked email, then zipped off to the bike trails.

yesterday, i ran 4.7 miles around lake harri7t at a 10:36 pace. i'm not used to the heat! today wasn't too bad but yesterday was rough.

on tuesday i ran 3.4 miles at a 10:00 pace, also around lake harri7t right after work.

i've been wearing a cho-pat knee brace.

it seems to be helping a little bit. not sure why though. i'm a little worried about attempting a longer run on saturday. we'll see how it goes.

i signed up for the twin cities marathon again when registration opened. my goal is still to try and get into the 10-miler and not run the marathon because i'm currently not in great enough shape to beat my time from last year by any significant amount. i know that sounds lame but, but thats how it goes.

however, i loved training for the race, so i will follow a marathon training plan and see how long i can stay healthy. if i get into the 10-miler (lottery only), i will make the decision based on how my training is going. right now i feel pretty out of shape, even compared to last year at this time. but i simply cannot imagine a summer without saturday long runs.

well i seem to have rambled on and on tonight! i was going to mention some other stuff but i will wait until later. btw the bike i bought is called a Rockhopper, made by Specialized. fun times.

  • Ouch to the bike jumping.

I wouldn't rule out being able to better your marathon time. You've got one under your belt, and sometimes the experience alone can make a difference. But I'm biased because my pre-training base was worse for my second and yet I managed to take off 6 minutes (which I thought was decent).

  • are you wearing the cho-pat because of itb problems, or still the 'runners knee' stuff? if itb, get yourself one of the foam rollers. actually, whether or not you've got itb problems, get a foam roller. it's good leg therapy whether you're injured or not. plus, it helps build the upper body while you're stretching. hehe...nice by-product. =)

  • We're signed up for the Twin Cities Marathon! It's my 29th birthday, so it's going to be a blast. We'll have to meet up for lunch or something while we're there!

  • Hey there,

A little while back I blogged about this post on ThisNext.com (check it out at http://blog.thisnext.com/blog/cho-pat-sport-medical-devices.html). ThisNext recently started a month-long private beta and I'd love to invite you to come to the site and make a list of your favorite fitness and health products (and any other products you love).

Clicking this link will get you into your account: http://www.thisnext.com/invitation/8072-6700-6949. It’s a one-time URL that’s only for you, so it can’t be shared.

Once you sign up, you can get started on making a list of your favorite products and telling everybody why you love them – just like Hans Rey has done here: http://www.thisnext.com/list/B3415DD3/How-I-Gear-Up. After your list is made, you can see what other likeminded members are recommending for you. It’s a perfect way to great product recommendations from a community of people whose interests, tastes, and values are in sync with your own.

ThisNext will also help you attract more traffic, since your list will link to your blog.

One small favor: We’re asking the bloggers that we invite to please NOT post about the project until our public launch in August. We’ll let you know when.

Hope to see you around the ThisNext neighborhood. Please let us know how the site’s working for you - we’re still working on it!

    Thanks,
    Liz

P.S. Don’t hesitate to email me any questions! (lizbarker77@gmail.com)
