thanks for the feedback on the racing while training. after reading the responses, i think i may have signed up for a short 5k race but don't tell anyone. hehe. this will be my second ever official race so its actually still kind of exciting for me! woohoo! i really want to go as fast as i can vs. the 10k where i carefully paced myself. i'd like to try to run until it burns baby! i still haven't figured out if i should include the race mileage as part of my long run on that day, or do the long run the next day or something. oh well, we'll see. i am leaning toward MAYBE adding on the full long run the day after the race (sunday). but i don't know. i will also sign up for a half when it works into the schedule. this of course all assumes that my shins don't crack and break in half.

i'm so early in the training phase that it doesn't seem real. do you know what i'm sayin'? the challenges that i will face seem too far off in the future to be tangible. late last week i got the confirmation in the mail though....its sitting right here on my computer desk. i have held it in my hands and studied it many times....is that really my name on the card? what was i thinking?

i feel sort of lost and confused about my life. i think its just a couple day phase though. it better be. turning 30 sucks, its screwing with my head. i don't turn 30 for another 6 months but dang, it's messing with my mojo.

  • Like you, I turn 30 in 6 months and was feeling pretty messed up about it. However, recently I had a moment of realisation - I think my 30s are going to be the best years of my life. I have worked very hard on my fitness in my 20s and my 30s will allow me to reap the benefits and do things I have never been able to do before.

Hopefully your 30s will be some great years too :)

  • The 30s are so much better than the 20s! You are a full fledged adult, but still young. If I could pick an age to stay at forever, it wouldn't be any younger than about 36. But ask me again when I hit 50, I might say 46.

Here is a link about the calcium and belly fat. It's not really a spot-reducing thing.

p.s. you don't have to run for cover - your suggestion is valid. I just haven't decided which way I want to go. I might even alternate with more extremes in my number of calories than I usually do. 1000 one day, 2500 the next...

  • The older I get, the more fun I have with life. I hope the same is true for you!!

  • You're a lot more prepared than you give yourself credit for! There are some people who run a marathon without even training! (though it's not recommended) I know one guy who had run maybe 3 miles at most and hadn't run in a few months...then one day decided he'd run a marathon that weekend! Crazy? Yes. But he did it (even if he had to walk some of it). You'll do great!!

And 30? Are you kiddin'? 30 is the new 20!!!

  • Being 30 is very liberating, and I predict great things for you this decade. Your training is coming along great - I'm so jealous! But you keep inspiring me, too, so keep it up! :)

  • You guys are so silly 30 is nothing. My 30s were some of my best years. I also had some great times in my 40s and well so far 50s are a hoot. Age is just a number and your life is what you make it. Its all in the attitude, baby!

  • Wuhoo, the pink ladies' got it right! I'm 42 according to my birth certificate and 13 according to the way I act! It's just a number, Brent -- it means whatever you decide it means.

  • Dude, you are such a BABY! 30? 30! Dang, I am just feeling ancient right now because I turned 30 in the late 1990s. Where's my walker and Geritol???

  • I hear ya! I hear ya!

I think the ladies are right, and it's just a number, but it sure can make you think and re-assess.

Don't worry. You still got the mojo :)
