first trail run (not a race though)
i found some trails located about 8 miles from my apartment. the last time i was near this area was more than 10 years ago. how sad is that, i'm 8 miles from trails and yet this was probably my first visit back here in more than a decade.
what a fun little run this was. at first i just hiked around because i had no idea the trails would remain so nice (and wide) for so long. i walked at a quick pace for about 57 minutes and then i finally gave in and started jogging. fun times! you guys who do trail races must have an absolute blast.
the route of a trail is different from paved paths due to the more violent twists and turns and elevation changes. this makes for a very fun run! and the trees and plants are right up in your face which makes you feel like you are moving 30 miles an hour. blast through to the top of a hill at a decent pace and it makes you want to break out with the rocky balboa celebration right then and there. how can you not have a smile on your face when you cruise to the top of a trail hill? huh?
i only tripped once and i was able to catch myself in time. heh. total distance was 5.3 miles. i ran 2.66 vs. the scheduled 3 but i'm going to call it good since i was out there hiking for almost an hour before picking up the pace. i'm going back on saturday for this weeks "long" run (only 5 miles).

how purty is that!! i bet there are bunches of froggies near all those lilypads. (you run w/ your digicam?)
trail running is probably better for your shins too.

That is a beautiful trail. No wonder you like it so much. And the added bonus of feeling lik you're running 30mph is awesome!

"Happy Trails" Despite my really slow times, trail runs are my absolute favorite. You're right how can you not smile with all that beauty around you.

How beautiful! And only 8 miles from your place–that is great. I always thought you lived in the middle of a city.

Do you run with a camera? Is that annoying? Just in your pocket?
