sleepy

well thanks for those nice comments everybody!! i checked again (and again and again) and the race is actually april 30th, i was so excited i wanted to run the race a day early i guess. see when i get excited sometimes things happen ahead of schedule. ah ha ha ha bah dump bump...pshhhhh. sorry i couldn't resist that one, it seemed like a layup. i'll be back every saturday night!

tonight--set my alarm for 6:15pm, a short nap was on tap. blew through that and woke up at 11:30pm, 5 hours later. crazy. crazy! who sleeps for a big 5 hour block of time like that--all i can say is i guess i needed it. i did that thing where you wake up and you think its 11:30AM and holy crap i am supposed to be at work!!! i am so behind training this week. i have to listen to my body for now though, i will be nice to it this week because of last week's ginormous stress-load.

i had a dream that i bought new running shoes. how weird is that. another weird thing--in all of my dreams lately i am the much lighter me from 5 years ago. wow it feels so good to walk around in that skin. then i wake up and i'm the heavier, slower me. oh well. hopefully that dream can become the real thing this year. or closer to it.

  • Congratulations on signing up for your first race! You will have a great time. You'll definitely have plenty of time to train between now and then, also. Someone told me before I ran my first 10K that if you can run 5K, you probably have the strength and lung capacity to run 10K. So I'm sure you'll do great and have fun. I'm doing a 5K that day as well. Yay!

  • OK, so will you post a goal time? Based on the little I've seen of your training, I think you can probably run something near 55 minutes if you do a little pace work prior. If nothing else, shoot for under 60. Good luck, they're fun. Be careful not to start too fast (it's easy to do). If I heal, I have a race the day after yours - a little over 42K.

  • finishing in an hour would be cool but i'm setting the bar low. my goals include finding the race site without getting lost, not hyperventilating at the starting line with anticipation, not lining up with the speedster runners, and not accidentally tripping a professional runner who is there to do business. rock on.

  • Brent,
Seek out a checklist of pre-race stuff (check the Runner's World website). Plan to be at the race site an hour early, registration and check-in can take a while, esp. if you have to find your way. Oh, and there'll be a line for the toilet. And you need to go back to the car to remove sweats, drop the race shirt, etc. It adds up. Again, good luck.

  • Doesn't sound like the lighter, faster you is far away. Congratulations on the big sign up. Woooo Hoooo! We'll all be waiting for the big day to come along now. How great that you have these other wonderful bloggers giving you race day tips and great support, I think that's fabulous. No tips from me, the only time I run is to get to the fridge :-D

  • My first 10K race took an hour and 5 minutes. It didn't matter that I was one of the last runners to finish. All that mattered was that I finished!!
