...in public

guess what?

i signed up for my first race today!! oh i'm so excited!!! woohoo! it's a 10K and its april 29th. i think i can handle it. i will get my own fancy chip to use? and people will actually time me? and maybe some people will even cheer? oh this awesome! i never even knew regular folk like me could sign up for races ya know.

Mia thought some short term goals would be helpful and indeed i think signing up for this race will give me a short term target to keep my eyes on. why would i want to go to a vending machine when i know i'm going to be participating in a race? in public? no sirreee not me, pass the apple and the unsalted almonds please.

now back to getting in some running after last week's trials. with renewed focus. suhweet!

  • That's perfect! I'm so excited for you. And it would fit nicely into continuing toward those long term goals, too. You're the bomb!

  • This is very inspiring ... I am going to be running my first race this summer, so I know that good feeling of having a nearby goal. Can't wait to read about your successes!

  • this is awesome news. my running floundered for years until i started signing up for races. it's great motivation on those days you don't feel like training. good luck!

  • I'm with Jeff. Signing up for races has always helped me so much. I've been an off and on racer but when I have raced, I find that my running is so much more focused and fun. Best to ya!

  • Congrats! I know you will enjoy it. I ran my first race in January 2002 after signing up for it as a motivational trick. Three years and 45+ races later, I still run races, but I don't have to use them as a trick anymore. I enjoy each and every one!

    Good luck!

  • A race virgin! How exciting for you!! It will be all sorts of fun, even if it doesn't feel like fun DURING the race...as soon as you hit the finish line, you'll be thinking about the next one!
