a very poor

..run. have you ever felt like you had two cement blocks on top of each foot? ooh man, my run this morning was brutal. i was totally regretting my two-day carbo/fat/protein loading. ha. i ate too much for two days and this was my punishment. my brain wanted it to go so well and so did every other fiber in my body. except from my knees on down. shins, calves, ankles, all sore. i have never had sore calves in all my life of playing sports and training, except now after these long runs. it was freakin' windy too. i managed 8.5 miles and then i QUIT. dang. i even walked a couple times. my pace was something awful also. i want to finish off the last 1.5 miles later tonight (or tomorrow) so i can at least meet my mileage goal for this week. i am still too heavy for these long runs.

i'm not sure how i feel about long runs. i give them a mixed review so far. they take up a lot of time but on the other hand, they challenge me in a very different way...and i learn a lot from them.

then i had a coffee date and i was kinda nervous on the drive over. i was even rehearsing some questions in my mind. ok i will ask her about this, and then this, and then that, and yeah maybe that too. if there is someone who can screw up a coffee date it is me. hehe. it was fun though.

then i met up with my nieces and nephew. they are fun times. they make me forget about crappy runs.

next week i might take it easy. my legs need some rest.

  • ...how do I get the willpower? I'd be happy just walking every day...but my willpower sucks...

  • Hey, 8.5 --that's a great run! Some days the legs just don't want to go, though. And I had an awkward coffee date recently. Glad yours went well!

  • But 8.5 miles is a long ways! Coffee dates. I've been out of the dating loop for so long! Do you realize there *wasn't* a Starbucks on every corner when I met my husband and we started dating? It's like we were the Flintstones. - Mia

  • 8.5 is an awesome run!! And, with the wind, you have to factor in the extra effort part. i know what you mean about the long runs taking up a lot of your day...when I used to do long runs, I'd feel like my ENTIRE day consisted of: run, shower, eat, eat, lay on couch and recover in front of TV, sleep. Coffee dates are great though since they're more casual than dinner...and you can really tell a lot about a person by what kind of coffee they drink!! :)

  • yeah the coffee date is sort of the pre-date date. they can be akward though. i think sometimes the coffee dates with the girl you know really well can have the most akward moments. but you know me, i'm kind of a dork so i try to think about conversation topics beforehand so as to not have too many akward moments. heh. do what ya gotta do!

  • my date had a chai tea and she didn't use one of those sleaves. what does that mean?

By Blogger brent, at 10:08 PM

  • didn't use one of those SLEEVES i meant.

  • Gosh–I do the same thing! I’m kind of shy and I hate the awkward silence moments, so I always try to have a bunch of “back up questions” in my mind in case there is nothing to talk about. As for the Chi Tea and no sleeve thing–I have no idea. ~ Good Luck with your running this week.

  • Great run! And Chai tea with no sleeve ... adventurous, maybe? Or maybe she was so nervous that she forgot to use the sleeve thingy.

  • hmmm...chai tea...well, that's kind of spicy, so maybe she's a "spicy" person (and not a hard-core coffee drinker). as far as no sleeve, maybe she has poor circulation in her hands so her hands are really cold and she likes the intense heat from the cup. :)

  • It's been so long since I dated, we didn't even have sleeves back then. Or coffee houses or whatever. Maybe she'd never been to a place like that and didn't know how to work the sleeve - that's what happened to me 3 months ago when I went to Starbucks for the first time EVER (not on a date). I think it's nice you had questions to ask her. I remember always being impressed when a guy LISTENED to what I said. Brent it's sad but you wouldn't believe how many guys don't even hear what comes out of a girl's mouth, because either she's so pretty they don't care or she's unattractive so they don't care. When I am a centerfold I will list thst as my major Turn Off and all the men in the world will change their ways in order to score with me. As if.

  • Brent, I'm so jealous of your coffee date...no one ever wants to drink coffee with me! And Marla, I'd totally change my ways to get with you, but I'm not a hot guy, either...LOL.

  • Coffee date?! So are you gonna let us know how it went. Is there another meeting in the works? I met hubby in a bar 9 years ago next month. Shania Twain was playing "If you're not in it for the love". I guess he was, cause he's still here.
