woohoo, some folks have started to post from new haven! awesome!! i haven't seen anything from april anne or bill yet but maybe my bloglines is slow to update. can't wait!
---
this is the final big week before taper. how can it be the final build-up already? what the heck is taper going to be like? i'm worried. will i be antsy? will i be signing my posts with *twitch* like jeff does? what will i wear for the race? what if all of the traveling i have to do in the last 2 weeks leading up to the race knocks the energy out of me (5 round trip flights plus meetings occuring during the 13 days before the race if i remember correctly)? what if, i can't find a pair of matching socks? (heh). what if i drink too much water? what if i don't know how to get/drink water at the aid stations? heh, i'm a little ahead of myself i know. kind of on my mind though.
we are inside a month now...t minus 26 days.
only 15 more training runs remain.
OMGosh i'm starting to get nervous...is that possible? i'll be back in a minute i think i have to go puke in the bathroom.
----
i'm back!
*deep breaths*
mileage update--
this week: 33 miles (right on schedule for once!)
total through week 14: 309.76

i get sick every race day (all two of them). if you can, get sick right when you get to the race grounds. outta the system, ready to run.
you're not quite there yet but happy early taper.

I tapered for a week prior to New Haven and I was expecting anguish and distortion. What I got was refreshed and rested. The calf injury I'd had for three weeks disappeared. On the way to the race from the car I did a little spurt of a run just to rile Sarah, Lara and Susan. I could not believe how fast and strong I felt. It was all good and lasted for nearly the entire race. Tapers are good things. Enjoy it.

I know you will do awesome. Don’t worry about non-matching socks. You can have your race day pics. taken from your ankles up and no one will ever know (besides the thousands of spectators on race day!) :)

I'm tapering for a marathon on the 18th. It is good for the body, you will feel better because of it. On the other side you will have those annoying doubts the entire time right up until the gun goes off and you have a fantastic race. This has been my experience from the marathon and 6 HM's that I have run in the last couple years!

ok we are newbies together. you can lose it or i'll lose it too... so this is what we're gunna do.
we're gunna take a big breathe in...mmmmmm....and out....ahhhhhhhh... and you're going to remember that you're a running superstar (shut up yes you are!) and your marathon is going to be amazing. and you will love it. and you will be inspiration and motivation to the other newbies that have a few more weeks left than you do!
and you're going to completely freak me out. DAMMIT.
ok. go puke. i'll be here hyperventilating.
sh*t!!
