Poignant Irrelevance

back to it.

before running the 10k, i was through week 5 on hals marathon program. my longest long run was 10 miles (accomplished only once). then my shins crapped out on me so i took a week or so off from running outside. i chose to hit the 'mill and save up the shins for the 10k. which turned out to be a great decision.

but now i'm back to pondering the schedule and contemplating where to resume the torture, errr i mean fun. i think this weekend i will probably head to one of the local running stores to make sure my shoes are a-ok. maybe i just need inserts? regardless, i better check that out before accumulating some serious outdoor mileage and dealing with painful shins all over again.

my travel schedule is going to be a little crazy for the next 2 weeks. now, i must get some rest. thanks for the nice 10k comments! rock on.

not all of the photos are up yet. good, maybe everyone at work will forget i ran this thing and will quit trying to find my photos. you shouldn't steal photos so i just "borrowed" this one to show you part of the lineup.

doesn't everyone look excited? i bet you see 30-40% of the total runners in this shot. ahhh, fun times. i wish i could recruit all 3,000+ runners to join me for all of my long runs.

  • Make sure you check on your form as well. Shin splints can be caused by poor form, bad shoes, and a wide variety of other problems.

  • I've never heard anyone use the term "irregardless".

  • Krista, he'll get a slap on the knuckles from his English teacher; don't worry.
Hey, isn't that you about 49 people back and 7 from the right edge? Yeah, I thought so.
Good plan to check the shoe fit. Inserts sound so wrong though. I'd go with less shoe if I could (barefoot). Try running slower for awhile so you keep up the endurance training and not stress the shins. If that doesn't work then run faster until your stride changes and the shins stop hurting. If that fails, write Jon in Michigan and ask for his PT trainer's number.

  • good tips. i swear my form is good though, that is why i was kind of freaked out about the sore shins (they aren't sore right now though). hmm. maybe my form sucks and i just don't know it.
