A Salty Face, And My New Favorite Place
made the drive to the best running spot in the state. its also where big sections of The Marathon take place. i've only run here once or twice before (last summer) so i was a little apprehensive. as i got out of my car, saw some people with fancy clothes on and little water bottles strapped to their waist. i'm in the right place!!
i ran outside and it was glorious! well the last 1/2 mile was not glorious but the rest of it, was glorious! i even got to run on slush and ice and snow, and it was great. all of the runners, and there were lots of 'em because this is THE happening place to run, they gave me a nod as they ran past me or toward me. a tip of the cap if you will, as if to say you are running dude, therefore you are the man. i felt so welcomed!
unfortunately are a good 20-24 miles away (round-trip) so it seems silly to drive that far for a run. maybe i'll make it there for the long runs at a minimum. but i made it outside! this is the earliest i've ever run outside. normally i don't start to venture out until may or so.
my face was a little salty at the end. i forgot what that means....what does that mean again?
-----------
1: 11:02 pace
2: 10:22
3: 10:32 passed a couple of lovely girls that were walking. mmmmmm they smelled really good. ok i could smell their bubble gum.
4: 14:30 what the HILL happened here? i must start to practice hills somehow.
5.5: ?? not sure of pace.
--------
about an hour and ten minutes. i have a lot of work to do if i want to run a Marathon. thats for sure. the hills in particular were a shock to my system. i have two fancy little blisters on two toes and one the left inside of my right heel.

Salt means you sweated-- it's kind of cool, isn't it? Someone told me during the Disney marathon to lick my arms occasionally to make sure I wasn't losing too much salt, since it was over 80 degrees. It sounded weird but I actually liked it.
And I totally think it's a good idea to do long runs at inspiring places, even if it's a drive. Scenery and people will help you get through as your long runs start to get longer.

my case is always grainy w/ salt after a long run. perhaps I'm losing too much salt???? hmmmmm. I never thought about it. How much is too much and how do I know?

I agree about driving somewhere to run...I hate doing that! There's a great little paved trail in my town, but it takes about 15 minutes to drive there...that's 30 minutes round-trip and it never seems worth it...I'd rather drive 3 minutes to the treadmill at the gym. But, my old city had the BEST outdoor running/biking/roller blade path and it was only a 4 minute drive from my apartment...that was MUCH more convenient!
