Results #7 and a run

Gain: 0.3 lbs. I would like to give a shout out to fat-free pudding and candy bars, both of whom made this special gain possible.

When I was a kid I played left guard on the offensive line (and skinny kids don't play on the offensive line btw). The star running back always puked all over the sidelines before the games--every single game. Nerves. For the first 3 - 3.5 miles of this mornings run I struggled with periodic urges to quit because I thought I might hurl. Maybe I'm not 100%? Maybe I get nervous? I think the former is probably more accurate. I think.

I ran the first 5 miles in 56 minutes or so. Slow. I would run 5.6 mph for a while, then I would get the urge so I would slow to 5.3. Back up to 5.6, back down, etc. I even walked once for about a minute, and one other time for about 45 seconds. I never walk.

But I made it the whole 7 miles. This is the furthest I've ever run on a treadmill. I think I've only hit 7 miles PERIOD 3 or 4 other times. I have a small raw patch of skin about an inch above my ankles (yeah both ankles). Apparently I was periodically scraping my legs with my shoes. Hmm. One of my toe nails feels weird too; it hurts actually. But I made it!!

  • have you lost a toenail yet? just wait...it's bound to happen! :) it's so weird! i've lost 2 so far! (yummy, huh?)

  • Forgive my soapbox, but there's no reason to ever lose a toenail from running. Check your shoes, ideally have a professional running store check them. You should have a lot of space - 3/4" or so - in front of your big toe when you're standing up, before a run. If your nails are aching, you almost certainly need bigger shoes.

  • Good for you! I've never run that long on a treadmill before. Not an easy feat! I usually feel like hurling later on in very long runs-- and then I think it's due to PowerGels, but I can sympathize. Glad you made it through.

  • ouch i'm not looking forward to losing toenails!
i guess if you want specifics, the toenail that hurt a little is on my 3rd toe--so it has plenty of space i believe. but i should go to the pro's and see what they say, that is a fine idea. i'd hate to be training in the wrong shoes.

  • wow! 7 miles is awesome. Especially on a treadmill. I've never done it, for sure.
