Last night I ran four 11:30 (avg) miles. It felt good; my knee was fine and no other muscles or tendons etc seemed to be complaining about the run whatsoever. Midway through the run I found myself so deep in thought that not only were my feet and legs on auto-pilot, but I made it through 3 or 4 songs on the mp3 player without even hearing the music. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Also, I had to drive through a snowstorm to get to the treadmill-- my all wheel drive was da man.

I took the HR monitor with me and recorded the entire run which I will post later for your viewing enjoyment.

I lost one whole pound this week. One pound! One measly pound. Maybe I'm not working hard enough, I dunno. The diet went ok, I didn't veer too far off course. The worst offenses included having 2 fat free yogurts instead of one, not drinking enough water, things like that. I haven't even had cravings for candy or cookies or chocolate or burgers or tacos or real sandwiches or pizza or salty chips or you get the idea. Maybe I'm not running hard enough or maybe. hmm. Whatever.

I feel better, I'm sleeping better, and I want to run all the time so that is sweet. I'm still studying your answers to the marathon question, they are awesome. Thanks!! I will post some thoughts on the subject in a few days as I contemplate my training. Later dudes.

  • I don't know if you've read my entry about leptin, but you should check it out :http://suckingitin.blogspot.com/2005/01/weight-loss-breakthrough.html
Could be why you have a small loss.

  • RE: your comment about gaining weight during marathon training-- I think for me it was due to the fact that I felt hungrier and always wanted to eat carbs when I was training, when I actually only NEEDED carbs on the days I had strenuous runs (unless carb loading prior to the race itself, or to very long runs of 16-20 miles). Immediately after a long run, I learned to eat something-- banana, yogurt, Clif bar-- and then that kept me from having the munchies all day long. Still, it took me several months to figure this out, 10 pounds later!

  • Only one studying day left! Are you ready? I hope you do well. Let me offer you a little advice, never try to study and run at the same time. I once attempted to study (using my notes cards) on a trail run...and let's just say I will never do that again! :) Good Luck!

  • One pound is great!! Studies show that losing weight slower usually means you'll keep it off longer--cause you're losing it the RIGHT way. Just keep up what you're doing and you'll definitley reach your goals. I thought for sure I would have lost at least a pound last week -- I ate great, exercise almost everyday...but the scale didn't budge. errrrrg!! I'm about to toss it and get a scale that actually likes me and will be nice to me. :)
