free stuff
we had free pizza today at the office. it smelled pretty good so that was torture. i had a vege burger on a wheat bun. with some kind of weird sauce. "did you have some pizza?" everybody would ask...nah i'm good, i'd say. 10 minutes later "aren't you going to have some pizza?" whats the big deal man. i guess people get all worked up when someone isn't eating free food. such is the life of a dieter. i was up to about 1,100 calories so technically i could have had a piece without initiating a disaster but i haven't done that great this week to begin with. plus tomorrow i'd be thinking to myself self, you had 1 piece and it didn't kill you so lets have 2 today. 4,6,8 pieces later i'm back to square one.
so no pizza! no real pizza anyway, not right now.
back to the crappy week for a second, i've had minimal water all week but the real culprit was The Test of All Tests on monday. i did a little stress eating over the weekend and victory party eating on monday afternoon. stupid. no blowup disaster eating but enough to show no loss this week (i predict). dangit. focus young grasshappa.
you guys are coming at me from both sides of the half/marathon discussion and i like that....these are the points i'm thinking about lately too. Richard is all do the marathon man it's a huge accomplishment (i'm paraphrasing here) and April Ann is all yo the half, its way cool (again, paraphrasing). Chris is playing it safe with a hey, lots of marathons out there :) Rachel posted a link to the NYC marathon FAQ site which is very helpful. other suggestions were offered by Jeff, Mia, Krista, Karmajenn, Scooter, Rebecca, and i hope i didn't forget anyone. I don't have my links set up so i will give a shout out instead.
i glanced at the beginner marathon training schedule on the NYC site and put together a spreadsheet, and then did the same with april ann's link to the hal higdon program so i could compare them. when all else fails, make some spreadsheets. the most notable difference to me: NYC has 2 days off from running, hal has 3 days off (one day is "cross-training...??). weekly mileage differs too but lets face it, right now my eyes seem to go right to the days with descriptions like "REST". i will build up some mileage here and see how i progress. i'm looking forward to it.

you resisted free pizza? you are a dieting god. you are super diet martyr who we all aspire to become. You have developed willpower of steel.

That sounds like a sensible, doable plan. It will be interesting to see how you go with the training without having actually *picked* a race. I would bet that as you get a few weeks under your belt, you'll be itching to grab one, or the other, and just go for it. - Mia

Good luck building up your mileage! Will you run on the 'mill or outside?
