update

i finished in 4:45. it was nuts. totally crazy out there. between mile 19 and mile 20, i ran past one of those scrolling bank signs that said it was 91 degrees. around mile 22 / 23, i came across another one that read 98 degrees. people were dropping like flies. nobody was running through the water stops in the last 10+ miles of the race. it was like a flood of 50 people all around me that were walking through several cup-filled blocks before starting up again. then in another 1.5 to 2 miles, same thing; 50 runners just crawling for blocks before starting up again.

it was crazy. it was disappointing. as i'm sure you probably know by now, they "cancelled" the race around 3.5 hours into it. for me, this occured somewhere around mile 20. some police person got out a blowhorn and shouted, "the race has been called! the race has been cancelled! everybody stop running!" huh?

this is me in the hotel room on the floor after walking back right after the finish. i puked up a half-banana 4 or 5 times over. i felt fine during the race but as soon as i crossed the finish-line i felt queezy. i had to lay on the floor for about 10 mintues before i could take a shower.

more later. one story is here.

  • Jesus. Thanks for checking in, Brent, as you can imagine there's been lots of worried hand-wringing out here in blogland. You are badass for finishing under five hours. Finishing at all. xoxo Mia

  • so i'm very confused by all of these marathon cancellation stories. are there official finishers? even though they cancelled things?

  • I hope that wasn't the SAME half-banana four times? Gross, dude.

Sorry it sucked so much, what a bad race. You are awesome to have finished it. I think your time is fantastic given the conditions.
