Long Run

5.0 miles-- 57:26. somewhere around 11:30 pace? eh whatever. slow but sure; i have never run that far with this extra weight. i thought it would be cool to be the only one in the gym but it was weird. being in a big gym and the only one. i was kind of lonely. i brought home the last 1/2 mile in a little 5.8 - 6.0 "sprint". i believe i could have gone longer but no need to push too fast this early in the game. i also realized the government would have been disappointed because i was about 2 1/2 minutes short of the new recommendation.

  • Geez, you have no idea how long it took me to work up to running for an hour straight. Seriously, that's half the battle. The other half is speed, of course, but one (pace) is not more important than the other(distance). In my experience, each one is it's own unique challenge. Look, what I'm trying to say...5 miles is 5 miles. Whether it took you 45 minutes or 60, who really cares? You rocked the run. - Mia

  • Great Job! It doesn't matter how fast or slow you go, the point is...you finished! This is one of my favorite quotes by Hal Higdon, "I don't recognize the adjective "slow" when it comes to running. All runners I know are "fast," no matter at what speed they run. If you worry about being perceived as a slowpoke when you first venture onto the running tracks, simply compare yourself to those potatoes, who never get off their couches."
