Poignant Irrelevance

i was at the grocery store tonight looking at the label of a fat free ranch dressing that had 40 calories per serving...and wondering if there was a better choice-- a fat free dressing with even less calories. i write this because it encapsulates where i'm heading for the next few months (at least). making good choices even when it comes down to salad dressing. you do what you gotta do and right now i need to be looking at salad dressing labels. i am ok with that.

i was so hungry all day today. i think i need more protein with this plan, i will see how it goes this week. i had extra snacks today to try to quell the hunger pangs (is pangs a word?). they were smart snacks though, nothing too crazy. actually i ate too many smart snacks but its over now i'm not going to dwell on it, i will no doubt be able to make up for it as the week progresses.

  • Have you tried drinking a ton of water throughout the day? That always fills me up--when I'm trying Not to snack. Although this suggestion comes with a warning - be prepared to run to the bathroom every five minutes. :)( And aren't you the one with the HUGE water bottle?) ~ april anne

  • Brent,
I used to struggle with hunger when I tried to lose weight UNTIL I figured out a fairly simple thing: if you eat foods that keep you feeling full, you never need to feel hungry. Check this post from my blog to learn more.

  • One of my "food ruts" last year was salad...I tried several different dressings. Of the lite variety, I think I liked Ken's Lite Sweet Vidalia Onion. Also, Walden Farms makes fat/sugar/carb/calorie-free (is that possible?) dressings -- these aren't TOO bad, but I'd probably rather splurge on a few calories and get something more tasty. There are so many dressings on the market though, I wish there was a small sample pack of them all instead of having to buy a big bottle everytime.

  • I don't know how to get past the hunger either. I usually try to eat raw veggies and water throughout the day when I get hungry. Not that I enjoy it, but at least it quells the pangs. Hot drinks (coffee, tea, even hot water) seem to help.
