"Working out doesn't guarantee weight loss" really, you don't say. did anybody see that article on msnbc.com?
Working out 5x a week for a month: Lose 1 lb? The article also says that a 150 lb woman who jogs for 30 minutes 3x a week plus lifts twice a week for 30 minutes, will lose about 1lb in a month (assuming she follows this routine every week and doesn't change her diet). hmmm. we all know about the 3,500 calorie = 1lb thing but that still doesn't seem right to me. she works out 5x a week for a month and she's only one pound lighter? ouch. i read somewhere that the 3,500 equals a pounds isn't exact because of a bunch of other factors but i can't remember where i read it. any ladies who read this think that article is right?
the article's point is about creating a net calorie deficit each day which makes sense. i don't know how the people on WW can follow the article though because it doesn't talk about points. ha ha just kidding. WW is one of the most successful programs i believe, but the whole points thing does seem a little goofy to me.
it must work though, so thats a good thing. after much digging someone [you know who you are! :) ] was able to find the secret points formula for me (i was quite curious)-- fat grams, dietary fiber and a little secret formula. maybe its not so secret, i don't know.
it also recommends working out for 60 minutes/day. 90 minutes/day for maintaining weight loss. but enough of me babbling, check out the article.
anyway...
i broke down and bought a little bag of sugar free hard candy today (w/ splenda). i can have 3 pieces a day apparently. they really hit the spot.
bfast: french toast pictured in previous post
snack: sm. skim latte
snack: 100 cal nutrition bar
lunch: cheese enchilada frozen meal, 5 calorie sf jello
snack: apple, mixed nuts
dinner: chicken pot-sticker frozen meal.
snack: 3 sf hard candy

be careful with those sugar-free candies/chocolates though, i've heard about the NEGATIVE gastro effects they can have (though maybe the ones made with Splenda aren't as bad...lord knows I eat about 3 cups of Splenda a day!).

Regarding the article, the 1 lb a month things doesn't sound too off, but that's only given my recent experience. I'm trying for that last 10 lbs. and those buggers don't want to let go. People keep telling me losing less weight is a slower process than losing more weight. Have you heard this?
Plus, weight lifting is building muscle (heavier) at the same time the fat (lighter) is going. So the weight change has been almost insignificant. Supposedly the real difference (I'm told) will be in inches. With my current regiment, I guess we'll see...

3500 calories = 1 pound is correct, but it only works in a test tube! In the human body there are many other factors involved.
I think that one pound per month thing is unfortunately true (see the last six months of my blog!). Especially for women, we generally don't lose weight as fast as you men.
I'm experimenting with different things now to get the weight loss going again, and I think the type of exercise is very important - jogging is not a good fat-loss activity. Or, it's not as good as some others.
I think it all varies so much from one person to another, there's not a single solution for all.
