ohh ...demand has been building for this one...

...slipping on the protection and getting down to business....

i found a toe sock at Target today. ha. its kind of cushiony too. are we happy now? you thought maybe my story was going somewhere else?? heee.

------------
one of my biggest challenges with this whole injury thing is that i rarely set personal goals in concrete stone, because i seem to fail at them all the time. everybody says hey, write down your goals, you can't amount to crap if you don't write it down. well huey. so this was quite possibly one of the biggest goals i've ever written down. but i fricken hurt tonight. my last mile was clocked in at about 18 minutes. i just hurt. i could not make my legs run forward. all the while, i'm not out of breath and wanting a good workout. i wanted nothing more than to push myself along my favorite path like i know i can. to glide along that path and look through the trees. but i guess i just can't run for a while. how ever long it takes. i can't run like this, i am so miserable. of all the cruel things, i saw a guy cruising past me in my favorite pair of asics tonight, which i can't wear anymore because my body hates them. i just thought to myself, that guy is a lucky bastard. i don't want to fail once again at my goal. a big fat failure, once a gain. go me.

my 0 day streak of non-posting marches on. i thought i was going to be on the road this week but guess not. so you will have to put up with me every day for now. i gotta iron now, and then lift chest. actually i think i will iron in between sets. that way its more manly.

  • Lance Armstrong said "pain is temporary, quitting is forever" but for us mere mortals, there is good pain and bad pain. Listening to your body and letting it rest is not quitting.

Don't ignore your injury. Learning to manage your injuries is part of being physically active and is particularly important for runners with their feet.

Your toe will heal and you will be able to run again without the pain but you need to let yourself get better.

  • maybe you could take a water aerobics class with the girls until your toe heals.

  • ha. i love the water aerobics idea! sorry 'bout your toe/feet man, but they'll get better and you'll be back out there running in no time...
by the way, i enjoy the toe sock.

  • And me, I am so impressed by your dedication to ironing!

Chin up, Brent .... things will get better and you'll be running when you're healed up.

  • I hear ya man, but I also second Lauren. Resting due to injury isn't quitting. Like I keep telling myself, we will get better and once we get straightened out we will be better runners than we were before. I'm getting ready to dive in ChiRunning this weekend- I hope to finish the book and take a class the first weekend in August. It's supposed to work wonders for shin splits you know.....

  • Hope the toe heals soon. Manly ironing...Now I have this mental image of you standing there ironing one shirt, turning doing a set while wearing shorts and a toe sock.

  • Just an FYI: a coworker of mine who runs a lot has issues with one of her big toes and losing the nail. She went to a running store and they fitted her with a new pair of runners that seem to be working for her.
